PETALING JAYA: Sapura Energy Bhd’s joint venture with Mitsui Exploration and Production Australia Pty Ltd and OMV New Zealand Ltd via its associate company SapuraOMV Upstream Sdn Bhd discovery efforts has yielded positive results in the Toutouwai-1 exploration well in the Taranaki Basin, New Zealand. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's national Poverty Line Income (PLI) has been revised to RM2,208, according to the calculations based on the 2019 methodology, says the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM). Previously, the PLI was calculated according to the 2005 methodology, with poverty benchmarked at RM980, based on the basic requirements for a household to live healthily and actively. TOKYO: Japanese wholesale prices fell in June at a slower pace after sinking at the fastest rate in four years in May, as a rebound in Chinese demand lifted commodity costs and eased some of the deflationary pressure caused by the coronavirus pandemic. PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s unemployment rate is projected to rise further to 5.5%-6.5% (up to 1 million persons) in Q2-Q3 due to the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic before stabilising towards year-end, according to the Socio-Economic Research Centre (SERC). PETALING JAYA: Manufacturing sales for May 2020 recorded a narrower negative growth of 19.8% to RM90.2 billion on a year-on-year basis, due to the decrease in non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products (-46.8%), transport equipment & other manufactured products (-29.9%) and electrical & electronics products (-19.9%). On a month-on-month basis, however, sales rebounded 19.1%.
