Market watcher Context outlines which market segments have been hardest hit by COVID-19, in North America and in Europe. Hardware has been the worst hit segment of the enterprise channel market in the first four months of this year, according to the latest figures from channel analyst firm Context. Its latest data shows that enterprise hardware revenue declines have widened from 1 per cent year on year in January, to 11 per cent in March and 17 per cent in April. Context's head of enterprise, Gurvan Meyer, said the market has been strongly impacted by the suspension of projects during the crisis. "While the COVID crisis has evidently impacted sales volumes in March and April, long-term drivers are of greater significance to datacentre infras.

Vendor to halt 401(k) contributions to retirement plans, freeze internal promotions and external hiring. Dell plans to cut some staff benefits including pay rises, promotions and 401(k) contributions as it looks to emerge from the COVID-19 crisis unscathed. According to reports from , Dell will halt several staff benefits as of 1 June and until at least the end of the year. The vendor will no longer make contributions to employee 401(k) retirement plans and will freeze internal pay rises and promotions as it looks to preserve cash during the COVID-19 crisis. Microsoft introduces host of new services to Azure platform. Microsoft has introduced 10 new cloud computing services across its UK Azure regions in order to secure organisations' data and enable new technologies. Among the new services introduced by the vendor to the UK is Azure Bastion, which limits threats by allowing users a secure connection to their virtual machines in Azure without using public IP addresses, reducing the risk of being targeted by malware. The Confidential Computing service allows multiple organisations to combine their datasets and analyse them without being able to access each other's data. Both vendors have admitted that job cuts are planned as COVID-19 hits their respective financial targets. Both HPE and IBM are undergoing layoffs to salvage their bottom lines as the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic takes shape. Wakefield-based Dell partner on hunt for more staff as it sextuples revenues to £42m. A fast-growing cloud and networking solutions provider has launched a recruitment push after opening a second office in Mayfair. Founded in 2009, Wakefield-based Dell partner Solutionize Global logged 535 per cent growth in freshly filed numbers.
