ANU Cosmologist Dr Brad Tucker has discussed the newly discovered ‘vampire system’ in space, describing the phenomena as one star "stealing stuff" off another. Mr Tucker said the Kepler Space telescope was utilised to observe the ‘vampire system’. Mr Tucker told Sky News the system involves a white dwarf star, getting close enough to a brown dwarf star to the point that that "white dwarf’s gravity literally started to suck off the atmosphere of this other star". "And as it started to do this it started to go through eruptions," he said. Mr Tucker said the system essentially saw the white dwarf "literally stealing stuff from another system and then exploding that in space".
