28-January-2020 18:53 BELGRADE - The Serbian dinar will remain approximately steady against the euro on Wednesday and the official median exchange rate will be 117.5463 dinars for one euro, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) announced. The dinar will remain steady against the euro m-o-m, rising 0.8 pct y-o-y. The dinar's indicative exchange rate against the dollar dropped 0.2 pct to 106.8020 dinars for one dollar on Tuesday.

The overall turnover was 489.5 mln dinars (approx. 4.2 mln euros), which was also due to trading in government debt securities. The BELEX15 index rose 1.1 pct to 806.50 points, while BELEXline strengthened by 0.6 pct to 1,730.29 points.

28-January-2020 17:37 BELGRADE- The level of service provided to customers by Serbian retail outlets is almost two times lower compared to Western Europe, shows the latest Intelligence survey. According to the results of the "mystery shopping" survey, the level of service at commodity outlets was at 52 pct ahead of the New Year season, compared to 81 pct in Europe, a statement said. The company said around 30 pct of sales staff was completely unfamiliar with the characteristics of the products it was selling and had a hard time finding information about them.
28-January-2020 15:24 PODGORICA - Montenegro's Competition Protection Agency has granted a request for market concentration approval to MK Group in connection with the sale of the Serbian Victoria Group. In July 2018, Belgrade media reported that MK Group, owned by Serbian businessman Miodrag Kostic, had taken over a Victoria Group debt arising from loans from commercial banks, the Montenegro portal Bankar said. In October last year, the Competition Protection Agency also granted a request for market concentration approval submitted by Ermaged Limited and Mormont Limited - Cyprus-based offshore companies linked with MK Group - in connection with a sale of Heta Asset Resolution.
28-January-2020 13:37 BELGRADE - Amendments to the Law on the Capital Market will make it possible to expand the base and the structure of potential investors in Serbian securities, Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said in the parliament Tuesday. Speaking about the amendments, he said they aligned the provisions of the Law with the Public Debt Law. "Foreign investors and funds will be able to invest quickly and efficiently into local securities and in the Serbian capital market," Mali added.
28-January-2020 12:42 BELGRADE - In a first for the country, Serbia will on Wednesday issue euro-denominated 20-year bonds worth 150 mln euros, Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said Tuesday. Speaking in the Serbian parliament, Mali said Serbia had in the past issued bonds maturing in up to 10 and up to 15 years. "The volume is not large, it is 150 mln euros, but it is important for us because if someone is ready to give you trust for a period of 20 years, it shows how much Serbia has changed, how stable we are and how much confidence investors have in our economy," Mali noted.

"Serbia has reduced the public debt to below 50 pct of GDP and it is now 48.2 pct of GDP, which is a great success," Brnabic noted at a presentation of a revised lump sum taxation model. It is a result of fiscal consolidation measures and also a success of our economy, our citizens and the reforms implemented, she said.

The overall turnover was 47 mln dinars (400 thousand euros). The BELEX15 index dropped nearly 0.4 pct, closing at 797.82 points, while BELEXline plummeted 1.3 pct to 1,719.65 points.
27-January-2020 18:07 BELGRADE - According to official statistics released on January 24, the November average wage in Belgrade was 69,713 dinars, Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said Monday. In an appearance on Happy TV, Vesic said a promise that the average wage in the capital would be almost 600 euros at the end of last year had been fulfilled as early as November. The average wage in Belgrade will be 600-615 euros when the December statistics are released on February 22, he said.

This is a new incentive introduced by the Serbian government aimed at stimulating the opening and development of innovation companies. To be eligible, a company founder must have a minimum 5 pct stake in the company and must not be affiliated with any legal person.

27-January-2020 14:51 BELGRADE - Serbia's Postal Savings Bank saw a 2.6 bln dinar profit in 2019, ending the year with a balance sheet sum of 228 bln dinars, the bank said in a report. For a third consecutive year, the fully state-owned bank registered positive business results. "The planned amounts set in the business plan prepared by an external consultant for the three-year period of 2018-2020 were exceeded completely, considering an above-average growth of the balance sheet sum, the deposit base and the credit portfolio," the bank said, adding that a 75 pct balance sheet sum growth was a result of an increase of capital and deposits.
27-January-2020 13:25 BERLIN - A Berlin meeting on reintroducing freight and passenger rail traffic between Belgrade and Pristina has concluded, Tanjug learns. The meeting, initiated by US special presidential envoy Richard Grenell and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, lasted for over three hours and details remain unknown for the time being. According to information obtained by Tanjug, a Serbian delegation was led by the head of the government Office for Kosovo-Metohija Marko Djuric and included experts on rail traffic and officials of the relevant ministry.
27-January-2020 12:47 BELGRADE - According to World Bank statistics, high-growth enterprises, also known as gazelle companies, make up just 5 pct of Serbian companies but account for 77 pct of jobs created in the country. This year, the government earmarked subsidies worth up to 12.5 mln dinars for such companies. Any remaining project value will be financed from a Development Fund loan under favourable terms.
