PETALING JAYA: As Malaysian businesses prepare for a post-pandemic world, financial restructuring is perceived to be a key tool to recover and improve profitability in the immediate term. PETALING JAYA: Bumi Armada Bhd has secured two contracts with an estimated value of RM2.06 billion from India’s state owned oil company Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) relating to its floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FSPO) vessel following the expiry of a previous contract. WASHINGTON: The global economic outlook is not quite as dark as expected even just three months ago, a top International Monetary Fund (IMF) official said on Thursday, citing better-than-anticipated economic data from China and other advanced economies. However, IMF spokesman Gerry Rice told reporters the overall global outlook remained challenging as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on many economic sectors. The situation remained "precarious" in many developing countries and emerging markets other than China, he said, noting that the IMF was also concerned about rising debt levels. WASHINGTON: Benefit claims filed by newly unemployed people in the United States rose slightly last week to 870,000, defying hopes that the wave of layoffs cause by the coronavirus pandemic would continue to ebb. Claims filed in the week ended Sept 19 were 4,000 above the previous week's revised level, indicating that the world's largest economy is still struggling to recover from business shutdowns beginning in March to stop the spread of Covid-19. PETALING JAYA: EcoWorld Development Group Bhd recorded a lower net profit of RM13.8 million for its third quarter ended July 31, from RM50.48 million previously, after a write-down of inventories by RM65 million.
