When I was in Tokyo in 2017, I left my daypack in a taxi. I asked the person who was running a cooking class I was attending if there was anything I could do about it. He made a phone call and within an hour the backpack was returned. This article in Mental Floss explains why it's so easy to recover lost items in Japan. The reason is that large cities like Tokyo have lots of tiny police stations, called kōban (交番) in every neighborhood. People who find purses, wallets, etc., take them to the nearest kōban. Here's how it works, according to :. In 2018, 4.1 million missing items were turned in to police, and the chances of reuniting them with their owners is pretty good. That same year, 130,000 of 156,000 lost phones (83 percent) were returned.

From the :. A record number of Kentucky residents are registered to vote as of Jan. 31, Secretary of State Michael Adams ® on Tuesday. More than 3.4 million Kentuckians are now registered, marking a new high for the state. […]. According to the Kentucky Secretary of State's Office, 48% of Kentucky voters are registered as Democrats, 43% are Republicans, and 9% are "listed under other affiliations.". The fact that more than half of the registered voters in famously red Kentucky have registered as Democrats is particularly remarkable. But it's not that surprising once you consider that Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell's approval rating had dropped to a whopping this past fall. Kentuckians may finally be fed-up with the self-proclaimed Grim Reape.

A man found a hidden GPS tracking device on his car. He removed it, and the police who put it there were so mad they arrested him for theft of government property. But a judge in Indiana found the man not guilty, reports :. But at trial, [Derek] Heuring's lawyers argued that the warrant to search the home and barn had been illegal. An application for a search warrant must provide probable cause to believe a crime was committed. But removing a small, unmarked object from your personal vehicle is no crime at all, Heuring's lawyers argued. Heuring had no way of knowing what the device was or who it belonged to—and certainly no obligation to leave the device on his vehicle. An Indiana appeals court ruled against Heuring last year. But Indiana's

Can you tell which of these products is counterfeit? Wirecutter had manufacturers send them , then bought . There were, of course, . The counterfeit glove, which we purchased from this Amazon page from a third-party seller, looked almost identical to the real thing, with near-perfect packaging. The major differences:. • The real glove’s blue lines were cleaner, and there was a tag inside with material information as well as a loop for hanging. The fake glove arrived with a snag in the weave. • The heat protection was slightly better on the real glove, which was thicker and had a longer wrist. The fake glove’s painted-on lines gave off a melted-plastic smell when we used it to hold a heated cast-iron pan for 10 seconds. • The real glove cost
