IBM had a good second quarter, with modest revenue shrinkage (despite a down hardware product cycle), significant gross margin expansion and solid earnings per share growth. Most importantly, the company saw solid growth in its key cloud, cognitive and business services units, all driven by IBM's ongoing pivot toward cloud-centric offerings. The company's foundation looks financially stable and more strategically oriented toward the emerging cloud-centric marketplace. Now we'll see how well IBM can bring Red Hat into the fold and leverage it to accelerate IBM's growth.
