Does how we place an image in history depend upon its presentation? A new quiz (and experiment) by Matt Daniels and Jan Diehm aims to test this question. The , published on The Pudding , shows users a series of five images captured in the United States during the last century and asks you to estimate the year the photo was taken. We recommend taking the before reading the rest of this article to preserve the integrity of the data results. The quiz shows some images in color, and others in black and white. In some cases, the black and white image has been digitally altered from its original color presentation. Daniels and Diehm want to know if users estimate the age of the same image in black and white as being older than that image in color.

Photographer has published a video highlighting not only the great style of vintage cameras but also their distinct shutter sounds. It's a satisfying watch and listen. Of his video, Noguera told DPReview , 'The video came from an idea I've had for a while, to simply showcase how shutter sounds and technology has changed over the years. I thought it would be cool and entertaining to put it in a visual format and share with others how not only designs have changed over the years, but how we've been able to integrate electronics to help automate how we take photos.'. In total, the video below showcases the look and sound of nine cameras, dating back to the 1940s. The cameras come from Noguera's collection with some additions from his friend, .

A study recently published in Nature Communications details the creation of an ultra-fast 3D camera capable of recording at 100 billion frames per second. The development comes from Lihong Wang and his team at Caltech, where the researchers developed this new camera using the same foundational technology found in Wang's previous 70 trillion frames per second project. The newly detailed camera produces what the researchers call 'single-shot stereo-polarimetric compressed ultrafast photography' (SP-CUP), a technology that records video at insanely fast speeds in three dimensions. This is made possible, in part, by creating the camera to perceive the world in a way similar to how a human sees -- with two eyes, or in the case of the camera, wit.

The Sony a7C is the company's latest and smallest full-frame interchangeable lens camera. It fits a 24MP full-frame sensor and image stabilization into a body more closely resembling the APS-C sensor a6600. A lot of work has clearly gone into making this one of the smallest full frame cameras available, whereas a lot of the features and capabilities are familiar. A new retractable kit zoom is being launched along with the a7C to help maintain those size savings. Out of camera JPEG. ISO 500 | 1/40 sec | F9 | Sony FE 35mm F1.8 Photo by Carey Rose. NASA's (SOFIA) has used its onboard Faint Object infrared Camera for the SOFIA Telescope (FORCAST) to water molecules on the sunlit surface of the Moon. For the first time, there are indications that water may be distributed across the Moon's surface, and not limited to just cold, dark areas of the lunar surface. SOFIA's infrared camera, used in conjunction with a 106-inch diameter telescope, picked up 'the specific wavelength unique to water molecules, at 6.1 microns, and discovered a relatively surprising concentration in sunny Clavius Crater.' This crater is one of the largest craters visible from Earth and is in the Moon's southern hemisphere. Casey Honniball is the lead author who published the results as part of her graduate thesis wo.

Roughly clockwise from left: 300mm collimator, laser transmission testing, lens test projector, Trioptics Imagemaster HR optical bench, spectrometry measurement. It might not look like much, but the total cost is similar to really nice house in a small city (or a decent house in big city). I have a complete testing lab at my disposal: MTF benches, lens test projectors, spectrometers, lasers, an Imatest setup gathering dust in a back room; everything all the cool kids have. A lot of people assume I test the hell out of my own shiny new personal lenses after I buy them. (Yes, I buy my own stuff). I do test them, but not in the lab. I go out and take pictures with them. It’s not because I’m such a great photographer that my practiced eye can t.

Award-winning artist and director Lynette Wallworth released her documentary in 2018 to critical acclaim. The project's director of photography, , utilized numerous cameras during production, including the specialized multi-purpose camera. Awavena follows the first female shaman of the Yawanawa tribe in the Amazonian rainforest. As part of the film, the crew documents an Ayahuasca vision quest and represents this experience using real footage captured in incredibly low light and CGI. Downing, with the aid of the ME20F-SH, captured footage of fluorescent insects and plants in nearly no light, something that Canon believes could have proven impossible for other cameras. This week, Canon shared a video going behind the scenes with Downing and

Autel Robotics announced its long-awaited EVO II series drone at CES 2020 in January, promising vast improvements over the original EVO model launched back in 2018. Its most notable feature is a modular camera system, offering three models that cover a range of features that meet different users' needs, from consumers to professionals. The camera on the standard EVO II uses a 1/2" 48MP Quad Bayer sensor and is the first consumer drone to offer 8K video. The EVO II Pro uses a larger 1"-type 20MP sensor that gives 6K recording, and the EVO II Dual features both an optical and a thermal camera in a single unit and also maxes out at 6K recording. NASA has released pictures taken by the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft that show the moment it touched down on the Bennu asteroid 200 million miles from Earth. The craft left Cape Canaveral a little over four years ago with the aim of intersecting the asteroid, and landed on the surface within three feet of the intended target on 20th October. As the craft approached the asteroid its SamCam camera captured images at a rate of one every 1.25 seconds, recording the successful touch-down and the lift-off just six seconds later. While in contact with the surface OSIRIS-Rex used its Touch-And-Go Sample Acquisition Mechanism (TAGSAM) arm to collect samples of materials which it will bring back to Earth for analysis in March next year. The arm blasts the s.

Off-the-wall photographic company Lomography has introduced a 35mm film camera that shoots 104mm long panoramic images through a lens that we are encouraged to fill with water. The company claims the HydroChrome Sutton’s Panoramic Belair camera is the world’s first 35mm format panoramic camera with a liquid-filled lens. Not surprising you might think, but they had to specify ‘35mm’ as in 1859 pioneering British photographer invented a panoramic camera with a water-filled lens that recorded on curved plates. The camera has a plastic body and a lens that offers the angle of view of a 32mm. There is a chamber in the lens construction that allows users to add a liquid of their choice to create unusual effects. The liquid as such doesn’t form pa.

Apple iPhone 12: which phone has which cameras? Apple doesn't make its naming system easy to understand, but to be fair, the company is hardly alone in this. This year's class of new iPhones includes four models – iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max – and aside from the size differences implied by 'mini' and 'Max,' you're on your own to figure out what separates them. One of the differences that matters to a lot of people is the device's camera features, and that's what we're here to help demystify. We'll go into depth on the more subtle differences between each device's cameras below, but if you're looking for a really quick answer here it is: the non-Pro models only have standard wide and ultra-wide cameras, while the Pro models hav.
