Module maker and project developer Canadian Solar handily beat Q2 expectations on Thursday, reporting module shipments that outpaced guidance and better-than-anticipated profits. The company significantly increased its annual module guidance to 8.4 to 8.5 gigawatts, from 7.4 to 7.8 gigawatts. CEO Shawn Qu said the results put Canadian Solar “in the most competitive position in the company’s history.” The company’s stock jumped about 10 percent after its Q2 results went live, bringing the share price just below $23. Among the highlights of Canadian Solar’s quarter:. Module shipments grew from 1,757 megawatts in Q1 to 2,143 megawatts in Q2, topping the high end of the company’s quarterly guidance. Revenue, at about $1 billion, fell within guid.

A friend sent me an Eid greeting and the picture had a sheep peering cautiously from behind a partially closed barn door, and asking whether Eid was over yet. The picture caption was both poignant and funny and yet captured the essence of Eid Al Adha (Feast of Sacrifice). For those of you who are not Muslims and do not know what the festival is about; it is celebrated to commemorate the steadfastness, the courage and unstinting devotion of Prophet Ebrahim (PBUH), who had been tested by God to sacrifice his son. Music runs in the blood in some families, while others shine in a particular sport. My family comprises unashamed foodies with larger-than-life appetites. Growing up, our mum had the Herculean task of catering to our insatiable craving for food. So, each meal was a marathon session. Our competitive nature extended to victuals which meant that the lady of the house spent hours in the kitchen trying to douse the flames of hunger.
