E-commerce major Flipkart on Wednesday said sellers on its platform saw significant growth in orders across categories like mobile phones, fashion and furniture with the platform witnessing about 110 orders placements per second during its The Big Billion Days (TBBD) sale. The Walmart-owned company did not disclose the total number of orders it received during the festive sale that started on October 16 and will end on October 21.

Mumbai, October 21. Extending its gains for the fourth session, equity benchmark Sensex ended 163 points higher on Wednesday, led by index majors HDFC twins and ICICI Bank. After gyrating 825.54 points in a highly volatile session, the 30-share BSE index ended 162.94 points or 0.40 per cent higher at 40,707.31. Mumbai, October 21. Equity benchmark Sensex rallied over 400 points and the Nifty topped the 12,000 mark in opening trade on Wednesday tracking strong buying sentiment in index majors HDFC twins, ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries amid positive cues from global markets. The 30-share BSE index was trading 404.42 points or 1 per cent higher at 40,948.79, and the broader NSE Nifty rose 113.55 points or 0.95 per cent to 12,010.35. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, surging around 3 per cent, followed by HDFC, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, SBI, Titan, Kotak Bank and Reliance Industries. On the other hand, Nestle India, HUL and TCS were among the laggards. In the previous session, Sensex settled 112.77 points or 0.28 per cen.

New Delhi, October 20. In a bid to resurrect Air India privatisation, the government is planning to give flexibility to potential investors to decide on the humongous debt with the national carrier, a top official has said. Debt stands at Rs60,074 cr as of March '19. The potential investors have given feedback that due to the uncertainty created by Covid in the aviation sector the debt should not be fixed at the EoI stage. As per the Air India EoI floated by DIPAM in January, of the airline's total debt of Rs60,074 crore as of March 31, 2019, the buyer would be required to absorb Rs23,286.5 crore, while the rest would be transferred to Air India Assets Holding Ltd, a special purpose vehicle. Mumbai, October 20. Budget carrier SpiceJet on Tuesday announced the launch of 62 new flights, including four international services to Muscat from Delhi and Ahmedabad and back, starting Thursday under the air bubble agreement with Oman. The 58 domestic flights include services on Delhi-Kandla-Delhi sector, Ahmedabad-Goa-Ahmedabad, Goa-Hyderabad-Goa, Mumbai-Guwahati-Mumbai, Ahmedabad-Kolkata-Ahmedabad, Delhi-Durgapur-Delhi,Hyderabad-Mumbai-Hyderabad, Kochi-Kolkatandash;Kochi, Pune-Chennai-Pune, Madurai-Delhi-Madurai and Mangalore-Delhi-Mangalore sectors, SpiceJet said. All these new services will be operated with a mix of its Boeing 737 and Bombardier Q400 aircraft on all these routes, it said.

New Delhi: FMCG major Hindustan Unilever on Tuesday reported an 8.58% increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,974 crore for the quarter ended September 30. Its sales during the quarter under review stood at Rs 11,510 crore, up 15.89% compared to Rs 9,931 crore in the corresponding period a year ago, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) said in a regulatory filing. Beijing, October 19. China's economy, which suffered 6.8% slump in Q1 due to the coronavirus pandemic — the worst in 44 years, bounced back posting 4.9% growth between July and September (Q3) buoyed by the government's sweeping efforts to stimulate demand and consumption. The world's second-largest economy, the first to have been hit by the Covid early this year and the earliest to have recovered, grew faster than the 3.2% growth posted in Q2, data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday. In the first three quarters, China's GDP expanded 0.7% year-on-year, returning to growth after the 1.6% contraction in the first half of the year and the 6.8% slump in Q1, the data showed.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday exhorted large central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) to achieve by December (Q3) 75% of their planned capital expenditure (capex) target for 2020-21, to support economic growth hit by the Covid crisis. She held a video conference with Secretaries of the Ministries of Petroleum amp; Natural Gas and Coal, along with CMDs of 14 CPSEs belonging to these ministries, to review the capex in the current fiscal. 32% of target achieved in H1. Jet Airways' committee of creditors (CoC) on Saturday approved the resolution plan submitted by the consortium of UK's Kalrock Capital and UAE-based entrepreneur Murari Lal Jalan under the insolvency resolution process. The plan was approved after the conclusion of the e-voting on the proposal, Jet Airways RP (resolution professional) Ashish Chhawchharia said in a BSE filing. "The resolution submitted by Murali Lal Jalan and Florian Fritsch has been duly approved by the CoC under Section 30(4) of the Code as the successful resolution plan," said the filing. The Centre and opposition-ruled states have crossed one hurdle over sharing of GST revenues after the Centre agreed to borrow Rs 1.1 lakh crore from the market and on-lend it to the states. This has addressed the primary concern of at least seven states about paying high interest costs if they were to individually approach the market.
