Buying jeans has always come with a side of heart-racing terror for me, a holdover from when my body didn’t fit into most of them — as a teen, the very act of entering a denim store was an exercise in bravery and, inevitably, humiliation. (Forgive my lack of confidence: I was a plus-size adolescent in the pre–body-positive, ultra-low-rise era.) Regardless of your body and how you feel about it, I’m willing to bet that you probably think shopping for jeans is the worst, too. The sizing is messed up. The price tags can be vicious. And digging through the folded stacks of denim to find the right cut in the right wash requires divine patience — and that’s before you get into the change room. Buying a new pair of jeans has been one of those fash.

Jackie Aina knows fragrance. Sure, the beloved vlogger is best recognised for her makeup and skincare content — but watch a little more closely and you’ll notice she makes a point of smelling the products she’s testing on camera, and often talks about scents on Twitter. Not just a casual perfume collector, Aina’s passion for fragrance goes way back to childhood, and to hyperhidrosis, the excessive sweating condition she and her mother share.“Our way of bonding was trying to figure out how to mask the smell,” Aina tells Refinery29. She learned the importance of scent at a young age, and got familiar with the ins and outs of fragrance. That adolescent relationship with perfumes eventually developed into an adult relationship with candles to s.

If your plan is to work from home for the foreseeable future, the advent of fall might not bring any major changes. You'll likely still be plugging away from your home office — be it your kitchen island or your sofa — but come September, you'll probably have a busier schedule of back-to-back Zoom calls. Since we know that video conferencing isn't going anywhere, the most functional use of your pre-autumn-shopping budget is to grab some new hair accessories. Not only are they more affordable than anything that hangs in your closet, they're also much more practical: your silk scarf can be worn as a trendy bandana and double as a face covering, while the tortoiseshell claw clip you store next to your laptop can take your post-yoga hair from sw.

When I read that the MP Dawn Butler had been pulled over by police at the weekend, I sadly wasn’t surprised. The Labour politician was driving to lunch in Hackney, east London, when she and a friend were stopped by Metropolitan Police officers for, she says, driving a “nice car”. “There is an institutional racism in the police, we know that, and it needs to be taken out,” she later said. “It is just tiring and exhausting and mentally draining… It makes you realise that there’s something really not right with the system." Growing up, I saw my black family members and friends harassed by the police in a way that their white counterparts were not. And seven years ago, when I was 18, I was stopped by a police van myself for the first time. It w.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is usually a highlight of summer and not just because of the city’s laid-back feel, effortlessly cool crowd and sun-soaked canals. Compared to fashion month’s Big Four – New York, London, Paris and Milan – Copenhagen is a much smaller affair and has thus written its own rules. Operating at a luxuriously slower pace, the shows are spaced out, lazy lunches punctuate the schedule and brands’ evening events feel more like family gatherings than corporate functions (guests often end up dancing on tables into the early hours). The Danes have always done it differently but SS21, kicking off in the capital today, is a world away from seasons past. Back in January, Ganni, Scandinavia’s most successful sartorial export, used i.

Cagliari is not, at first glance, the loveliest or most alluring of Italian cities. And yet, I cannot manage to leave it. Every junction seems to be an exercise in misdirection, sending me towards a rusty industrial zone, a high-fenced dockside, a ferry I do not wish to board. Finally, in frustration, I discard the map, relent in my long-held road-tripper’s aversion to the easy shortcut of the sat-nav system and type “Cardedu” into my phone. It blinks and thinks as it picks a route through the maze that is the Sardinian capital – and, perhaps, chuckles silently to itself at my stubbornness. I have been going the wrong way.

Four out of five babies born in 2015 started out being breastfed. But by the time they were six months old, that number had dropped to under 58%, reports the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. While there are benefits to breastfeeding, there’s nothing wrong with making a choice to stop if you find that it doesn’t work for you or your family at any point. That said, it’s likely that at least some of the parents who gave it up between their child’s first days on Earth and their sixth month wanted to keep going — but hit a roadblock along the way. And that’s something a lactation consultant possibly could have helped with.“Even though breastfeeding is natural, that doesn’t mean it’s automatic,” says Linda Dahl, MD, founder of the Dahl

Two weeks ago, Brooklyn-based unisex brand Telfar took to Instagram to share a message that many of the cult brand’s fans thought was their golden ticket to finally obtaining one of its iconic Shopping Bags. In it was an alert that a restock of the bags, which notoriously sell out in seconds, was coming. The Shopping Bag has been called the “Bushwick Birkin”— first, by makeup artist Xya Rachel, and later, by everyone who reads The Cut — for its reputation in the fashion industry as the bag to own, more so in some circles than even the Hermès purse it gets its nickname from. It is available in three sizes, an ever-growing array of colour ways, and costs between £150 and £257, depending on size. The only problem is, with its affordable price

Countries that consistently have a Covid-19 infection rate of more than 20 people per 100,000 citizens are at risk of losing their spot on the UK’s quarantine-exempt list, according to an industry insider. All inbound arrivals to the UK have been subject to 14 days’ self-isolation since 8 June, with the only exceptions being those coming from destinations deemed "low-risk" by the government’s Joint Biosecurity Centre.

In early 2020, my travel goals included a trek to Everest Base Camp, until a certain virus scuppered my plans, and I pledged to stay closer to home, experiencing activities and places I’d somewhat snobbishly written until now. First up? A weekend in Wales, in a static caravan on Haven Holidays’ Hafan y Môr site. The appeal was two-fold. For years I’d wanted to return to North Wales (which I visited once as a child), although I was keen to explore beyond its biggest crowd-pullers. My post-lockdown eagerness to escape was tempered by the knowledge I wouldn’t be the only one heading to North Wales in August; hotel prices were soaring and crowds seemed inevitable. A static caravan seemed like the perfect solution for my husband and I.
