Beijing, October 19. China's economy, which suffered 6.8% slump in Q1 due to the coronavirus pandemic — the worst in 44 years, bounced back posting 4.9% growth between July and September (Q3) buoyed by the government's sweeping efforts to stimulate demand and consumption. The world's second-largest economy, the first to have been hit by the Covid early this year and the earliest to have recovered, grew faster than the 3.2% growth posted in Q2, data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday. In the first three quarters, China's GDP expanded 0.7% year-on-year, returning to growth after the 1.6% contraction in the first half of the year and the 6.8% slump in Q1, the data showed.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday exhorted large central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) to achieve by December (Q3) 75% of their planned capital expenditure (capex) target for 2020-21, to support economic growth hit by the Covid crisis. She held a video conference with Secretaries of the Ministries of Petroleum amp; Natural Gas and Coal, along with CMDs of 14 CPSEs belonging to these ministries, to review the capex in the current fiscal. 32% of target achieved in H1. Jet Airways' committee of creditors (CoC) on Saturday approved the resolution plan submitted by the consortium of UK's Kalrock Capital and UAE-based entrepreneur Murari Lal Jalan under the insolvency resolution process. The plan was approved after the conclusion of the e-voting on the proposal, Jet Airways RP (resolution professional) Ashish Chhawchharia said in a BSE filing. Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and Russian Direct Investment Fund, Russia's sovereign wealth fund, on Saturday announced that they have received approval from the Drug Control General of India to conduct an adaptive Phases 2/3 human clinical trial for Sputnik V vaccine in India. The city-based drug maker said in a press release that this will be a multi-centre and randomised controlled study, which will include safety and immunogenicity study.
