Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) constitute the top five NPs in use today. A recent study determined that oral administration of TiO2 NPs increases plasma glucose in mice. In the current study, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) technology was used to investigate genome-wide effects of TiO2 NPs. Clustering analysis of the RNA-seq data showed the most significantly enriched gene ontology terms and KEGG pathways related to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and ER stress. Molecular biology verification showed that TiO2 NPs activated a xenobiotic biodegradation response and increased expression of cytochrome P450 family genes.

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 signaling and micro (mi)RNAs are relevant in mediating GBM progression. However, their roles in desensitizing GBM cells to TMZ are still unclear. We aimed to identify IGF-1-mediated miRNA regulatory networks that elicit TMZ insensitivity for GBM. By miRNA array analyses, totally 1,308 miRNAs were examined. The 93 upregulated and 148 downregulated miRNAs were identified in IGF-1-treated glioma cells.

Balanced TGFβ/BMP-signalling is essential for tissue formation and homeostasis. While gain in TGFβ signaling is often found in diseases, the underlying cellular mechanisms remain poorly defined. Here we show, that the receptor BMPR2 serves as a central gatekeeper of this balance, highlighted by its deregulation in diseases such as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). We show that BMPR2-deficient cells express genes indicative for altered biophysical properties including up-regulation of ECM proteins and integrins.

LT2. Salmonella Typhimurium is one of the major foodborne pathogens due to its biofilm formation on food contact surfaces. A polymer of positively charged lysine, ε-Polylysine has been demonstrated to inhibit biofilm formation of both Gram-positive and -negative bacteria. To elucidate the mechanism for inhibition of biofilm formation by ε-Polylysine, transcriptional profiles were compared between the cells before and after treatment with ε-Polylysine in Salmonella Typhim.
