AMARILLO – Extreme heat on Thursday pushed some Xcel Energy substation facilities to capacity, and as the heat wave wears on, customers are being asked to be mindful of their use of electricity to help ensure the reliability of the system.The company is monitoring hotspots in local distribution networks in Amarillo and in the New Mexico towns of Carlsbad, Hobbs, and Roswell where strong economic growth has increased electricity demand, according to a news release.
