16-March-2020 18:58 BELGRADE - The number of construction permits issued in Serbia in January this year was 1,289 - up by 31.3 pct y-o-y, according to the national statistical office RZS. The anticipated value of construction works in January 2020 is 70.7 pct higher compared to January 2019. In terms of the type of structure, buildings accounted for 71.6 pct of the total permits issued in January 2020, while other structures made up the remaining 28.4 pct.

16-March-2020 16:59 BELGRADE - Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Serbia's flagship carrier Air Serbia has cancelled 16 flights scheduled for Monday, including flights from Belgrade to Podgorica, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Skopje and Banjaluka. A Nis-Bologna flight has also been cancelled, according to the airline's website. Air Serbia is also not flying on Monday from Belgrade to Ljubljana, Zurich, Copenhagen, Athens, Rome, Milan, Vienna, Bucharest and Tel Aviv.
16-March-2020 16:41 BELGRADE - Belgrade-based British Motors doo, the majority owner of Globos osiguranje, intends to complete a takeover of the Serbian insurance company, according to a takeover bid published by the Belgrade Stock Exchange. For 444,872 Globos osiguranje shares, British Motors has offered 402 dinars apiece. The bid was opened on Monday and closes on April 6.
16-March-2020 13:14 BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's video meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which was to be held Monday via a conferencing call, has been postponed for Tuesday, it has been confirmed to Tanjug. The reason for the postponement is a telephone summit of EU leaders over the coronavirus pandemic, unofficial sources told Tanjug. Vucic has said earlier a resumption of the dialogue with Pristina and, in particular, the situation in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, would be the main topics of his conversation with Merkel.

In the period from the previous report to Monday 8 am, samples from 18 people were tested, seven of which were positive while 11 were negative, the Ministry of Health said. Three people are in home isolation with light symptoms while four people have been hospitalised but are in stable condition and free of complications.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the decision had been made with immediate effect. "Starting from today, Serbia is at war against an invisible adversary, a dangerous, vile adversary our country must defeat," Vucic said at the press conference after several meetings with authorities earlier in the day.

The BELEX15 index dropped 1.6 pct to 714.24 points, declining 8.5 pct w-o-w, while BELEXline fell almost 1.7 pct to 1,582.94 points, dropping 7.1 pct w-o-w. The petroleum company Naftna industrija Srbije saw the highest turnover - almost 15 mln dinars - but fell almost 2 pct to 601 dinars.
13-March-2020 18:57 BELGRADE - Four more coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Serbia, taking the country's infection count to 35, Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar said late Friday. At a press conference in the government building, he said 25 people had been tested for the virus during the day. Loncar said three of the four newly-identified cases were at home with minimal health complaints and that one was in hospital but in stable condition.

The specific measure is aimed at solving the issue of air pollution and directly encourages the use of environmentally-friendly forms of transport. Under the decree, adopted on Thursday, government subsidies for purchases of new electric and hybrid-powered vehicles range from 250 euros for mopeds and light tricycles to 5,000 euros for passenger vehicles with up to nine seats and light freight vehicles, according to a statement from the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

"Consumer prices in February 2020, increased by 1.9 pct in relation to February 2019. In February 2020 in relation to December 2019, consumer prices increased by 1.2 pct, on average," the RZS said in a statement. "Observed by main groups according to the destination of consumption in February 2020 in relation to the previous month, an increase of prices was noted in the groups Communication (3.8 pct), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.5 pct), Food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.2 pct), Recreation and culture (0.8 pct) and in the groups Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenanc.
13-March-2020 15:12 BELGRADE - The global economy is on a decline but we are not giving up on the planned 4 pct GDP growth in 2020 despite the situation concerning the coronavirus, Serbian PM Ana Brnabic said Friday. "We must not panic but take all measures possible to stabilise our economy as much as possible. Our economy is holding well at the moment and we will be trying to stabilise it," she told Pink TV. The government is trying to mitigate as much as possible the impact of the coronavirus on public health and the economy and to enable the economy to recover more quickly afterwards, she said.
13-March-2020 13:47 BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will meet with representatives of parties running in the upcoming parliamentary elections and the meeting will most likely be held on Tuesday afternoon, Tanjug learns. The elections have been called for April 26. However, in late Thursday's televised address to the nation, Vucic announced he intended to invite the representatives of all electoral lists to a discussion about how and when to organise the election campaign in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak and about whether the elections should be postponed for five, ten or 15 days.

They will discuss several matters - a resolution of the Kosovo issue, the situation in the region, European integration and bilateral relations.
