YSA Design has redesigned Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ popular La Veranda restaurant for the line’s newest ship, Seven Seas Splendor, which was christened at the end of February. The interior design firm cooperated closely with shipbuilder Fincantieri to introduce projecting enclosed balconies which offer diners ocean views from both starboard and port. Maritime electronics provider Seatronx has launched its new RRD-19T river radar display to improve river navigation. The system offers enhances visibility in all lighting conditions and can withstand harsh marine conditions. It features a 19-inch display with portrait orientation to help operators of river vessels to see further and also highlights traffic, weather and markers. The high-definition display produces a clear image during the day and at night. Elite Exhibitions has postponed its Cruise Ship Interiors Expo (CSI) America and Cruise Ship Hospitality Expo (CSH) America from June to September 2020, following travel bans and other restrictions that have been implemented worldwide in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally scheduled for 16-17 June, the events will now take place on 2-3 September at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, USA. Ocean Victory, the third vessel in SunStone Ships’ Infinity series, has been launched in a ceremony at the CMHI shipyard in Haimen, China. The 104-metre-long ship can accommodate up to 200 passengers in 93 suites. Several changes have been made from the design of the first ship in the series, Greg Mortimer, including the installation of an infinity pool and the replacement of the bridge wings with two observation platforms. The Infinity series features Ulstein’s X-bow hull design, which reduces fuel consumption while providing a smoother voyage. Digital consulting firm OZ has created a new mobile solution called Salus that could help South Florida health authorities and cruise lines to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the region. Carnival Corporation has offered for governments and healthcare authorities to use select cruise ships from its Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises Australia brands as temporary hospitals for non-Covid-19 patients. The corporation hopes to help governments relieve the growing pressure on land-based healthcare facilities, which is being exerted by the continued spread of the Covid-19 virus across the world. Iona, P&O Cruises’ newest cruise ship, has left Meyer Werft’s shipyard in Papenburg, Germany to prepare for several days of technical and nautical sea trials on the North Sea. The ship departed Papenburg on 18 March. She will be conveyed along the river Ems before arriving in Eemshaven, Netherlands on the evening of 19 March, depending on weather and tidal conditions. The vessel will proceed in reverse, with two tugs providing assistance in the process. Her passage along the Ems will also be aided by a team of river pilots from Emden, Germany, who have trained for the conveyance on a computer simulator in Wageningen, Netherlands.
