Balluta bay has been re-opened to the public after the completion of a sand re-nourishment programme. Speaking at a press conference, Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said that through the Malta Tourism Authority’s work, the country now has an additional four beaches to enjoy, these being St George’s Bay in Birzebbuga, Fajtata Bay in Marsaskala and Ghar L-Ahmar in Marsaxlokk, apart from Balluta. Mizzi added that the government is committed to making more beaches accessible throughout the summer, as they play an important part as a tourist attraction. He said that the MTA will continue to work on the replenishing of the bays every year. Alongside MTA, the Foundation for Tourism Zones will manage the bays and all bays will have a lifeguard stati.
84 out of 200 signatures on a petition calling for a vote of confidence in Adrian Delia were invalid or were signed by people with expired memberships, PN General Council President Kristy Debono said. The industrial action taking place at the Mater Dei Hospital maternity department has been suspended after two weeks of the directives being put in place, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne has said. Fearne announced this on Twitter, saying that "following discussions this morning, good will prevails and MUMN suspending industrial actions at maternity department at Mater Dei". The directives were implemented following a change in rosters that were in place for over eight years by the hospital management. The industrial action led to complaints by new parents, both fathers and mothers alike, as mothers were forced to wash their own babies with instructions from midwives rather than the midwives doing the washing themselve.

Malta is taking a leadership role in the Commonwealth to tackle climate change, Foreign Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela has said. "Commonwealth countries must send an important signal to stakeholders and citizens around the world that the international community is serious about addressing climate change and about moving towards a climate-neutral economy", Abela said during the Commonwealth Symposium on Climate Finance and Small States organised in Malta. He remarked that Malta is taking a leadership role in tackling climate change, by encouraging the commonwealth community especially the 31 small states out of the 53 countries, to make their voice heard on the adverse effects of climate change and to promote the implementation of the Agenda.
In May, the number of persons registering for work stood at 1,669, decreasing by 6.8% when compared to the corresponding month in 2018, statistics issued by the National Statistics Office show. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has just launched the new rent reform regulations, which will come into force in January 2020. The reforms will require a one-year minimum residential contract period, and have fiscal incentives for long-term rents, obligatory contract registrations with the housing authority and minimum notice periods stipulated both for the landlord not renewing contracts and for tenants not wanting to renew. All contracts signed after January 1 2020 must follow this reform, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.
The Tourism Police have not operated since 2017 after only a year of them being stationed in certain tourism hotspots. Representatives from the Civil Aviation Directorate within Transport Malta met with their Brazilian counterparts in Lisbon, Portugal yesterday and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on air services and cooperation between the aeronautical authorities of both countries. The delegations also initiated an Air Services Agreement between the respective Governments. By means of this Memorandum, both sides reached agreement on a common regulatory framework which would permit the operation of air services between Malta and Brazil.
