Feeder cattle were mostly lower, pressured by. the day’s higher move in corn. October. live cattle closed $.72 higher at $109.45 and December live cattle closed $.72. higher at $112.15. October feeder cattle. closed $.20 lower at $144.10 and November feeder cattle closed $.12 higher at $144.25. Headed into the end of the day, a light to moderate direct cash cattle trade was reported in parts of the North.

Milk futures and most cash dairy prices were up on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Friday. October Class III milk was up $.01 at $18.64. November was up $.09 at $18.71. December was up $.07 at $17.88. January was up $.08 at 17.10. The milk futures from February through next September ranged from two to thirteen cents higher. Dry whey was up $.0025 at $.3025 cents per pound. Seventeen sales were recorded from $.2950 to $.3025.

Direct cash cattle trade activity is still slow. There are a few more bids on the table at $105 to $106 live and $170 dressed. Those remain well below current asking prices of $109 to $110 live and $175 to $178 dressed. Packer inquiry is expected to improve throughout the day. Boxed beef opened firm to higher on moderate demand for. moderate offerings. Choice is $.25. higher at $215.88 and Select opened $1.49 higher at $188.15. The Choice/Select spread is $27.73. At the Farmers & Rancher Livestock Auction in Kansas, receipts were up on the week and the year.

Lincoln Land Community College in central Illinois has. started construction on a new ag center that will bring more opportunities to. agriculture students. Ag program coordinator Bill Harmon tells Brownfield the center will be named after Charles and Irene Kreher who left their $18 million estate to the LLCC ag program. He says the Kreher Center will include a state-of-the-art technology lab with combine and sprayer simulators. "We are able to put a student in front of either one of these and let them experience the machine and learn what they can and can’t do and see mistakes in the virtual world without potential to any damage to a quarter of a million dollar or more piece of equipment.".

This weekend’s forecasted blizzard has helped the corn. market recover from yesterday’s losses. Analyst Al Kluis says December futures lost 14 cents Thursday after the bearish USDA report. “And today, guess what? We’re up 14 cents. Everybody is looking at the weather maps, seeing how much snow is going to hit where. It looks to me like this is going to impact about 15 or 20 percent of the corn crop.”He points out several states expected to be impacted by the storm including the Dakotas and Minnesota have fewer than 50 percent of corn acres fully mature.

A nearly stationary storm system will affect the north-central U.S. through Saturday. In parts of the Dakotas, storm-total snowfall could reach 1 to 3 feet and winds may gust between 40 and 60 mph, leading to blizzard conditions, travel disruptions, an indefinite cessation of fieldwork, and severe stress on livestock. Cold air will continue to drive southward in the storm’s wake, resulting in growing season-ending freezes roughly along and northwest of a line from northern Texas to Lake Michigan.
