TUCSON, Ariz.—Researchers in Arizona report that they have developed a compact device that uses a laser to determine a patient’s refractive error and eyeglass prescription. The hand-held device was developed by iCrx, a spinoff from the . ULUTH, Ga.— (NASDAQ: EYE) has announced that Melissa Rasmussen will join the optical retail company as chief accounting officer, effective July 29. She will report to chief financial officer Patrick Moore. Rasmussen will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s accounting function, according to the announcement late last week. “We are excited to welcome Melissa to the National Vision team,” Moore said in the announcement. “She brings more than two decades of experience in management of accounting processes and controls, financial planning and execution, regulatory compliance and much more. Melissa will be a great addition to our finance and accounting team.”

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.— (JNJ) posted solid results for the period ending June 30, 2019. The health care giant reported net earnings of $5,607 million for the second quarter versus $3,954 million in the year-ago period, a 41.8 percent increase. Sales totaled $20,562 million compared with $20,830 year ago, a 1.3 percent dip. However, adjusted operational sales, excluding the net impact of acquisitions and divestitures, rose 3.7 percent. "We delivered solid second-quarter underlying sales growth and strong earnings growth that enables us to make investments in innovation to accelerate performance in each of our businesses," said Alex Gorsky, chairman and CEO.

The Nicox Group had cash and cash equivalents of €17.3 million as compared with €23.5 million at March 31, 2019 and €22.1 million as of Dec. 31, 2018. NEW YORK— announced last week that it is voluntarily recalling several prescription drug products “as a precautionary measure.” The company attributed the recall to management concerns regarding the sufficiency of quality assurance controls over critical systems in the manufacturing facility.
