VANCOUVER —Canada’s innovation performance has declined in recent years and is falling further behind the U.S. and other developed countries, despite decades of costly innovation programs by successive federal governments, finds a new study released today by the Fraser Institute, an independent, non-partisan Canadian public policy think-tank.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) released their 2018 Coal Market Report last month with forecasts through 2023. Coal accounts for 27 percent of total global energy and 38 percent of global electricity generation—the same market share it held in 1998. In 2017, global coal demand increased by 1 percent and electricity generation from coal increased by around 3 percent.

As Fox News reported “Self-described Japanese ‘Tuna King’ Kiyoshi Kimura paid a record $3 million for a 612-pound (278-kilogram) Bluefin tuna at the first new year’s [2019] auction in Tokyo on Saturday.” After trimming the skin etc., what’s left of the fish must cost the “Tuna King” around $ 6,000 for a mere pound of edible tuna. When Americans think about border security, they usually imagine the floods of migrants crossing the border and showing up in Texas and Arizona. The illegal migrant crisis is at its worst in places like El Paso where gang members released by a broken immigration system swarm the streets. Limited border fencing had previously helped sharply cut crime rates in El Paso, but it doesn’t end in El Paso.

Author and speaker Os Guinness knows America is divided, but he has a different line of demarcation than some other cultural observers. During an appearance at the Family Research Council in Washington to promote his new book: “Last Call for Liberty”, Guinness said the division is the difference between those who understand “the Republic viewed through the lens of the US revolution and those who view it through the lens of the French revolution.”
