Aberdeen headquartered well engineering and project management firm, Zenith Energy, has started operations on a six-month contract in Morocco worth an estimated £1million in value. The contract, with SDX Energy Morocco, is a 12-well onshore drilling project in the north of the country, near the city of Kenitra, which is 50 miles north of Rabat. Zenith is project managing the drilling campaign, which includes well planning, overseeing equipment requirements and procurement, as well as contracts with third party services and rig inspection.

ExxonMobil and GE today announced the launch of Mobil SHCTM 918 EE gas turbine oil, a new technology that may dramatically improve turbine bearing efficiency by up to 15 percent compared to conventional ISO VG 32 turbine oils. Designed for use in multi shaft 7HA, 9HA, 6FA.01 and 7FA GE gas turbines, this technology can help power plant operators reduce energy consumption, and, thus, the cost to produce power. Improving turbine energy efficiency is a significant focus for the power generation industry.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Total announce their collaboration to deploy the world’s first automated seismic acquisition system in Abu Dhabi. This pilot project, performed with Total’s Multiphysics Exploration Technology Integrated System (METIS®), uses autonomous drones and a ground vehicle to drop off and retrieve seismic sensors without human intervention, therefore at a lower cost.

IBM announced today that it has joined a global consortium of partners, led by marine research organization ProMare, that are building an unmanned, fully-autonomous ship that will cross the Atlantic on the fourth centenary of the original Mayflower voyage in September 2020. The Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS) will use IBM’s servers, AI, cloud and edge computing technologies to navigate autonomously and avoid ocean hazards as it makes its way from Plymouth, England to Plymouth, Massachusetts.

ExxonMobil said today that it has signed agreements with the Indian Institute of Technology locations in Madras and Bombay, further expanding its extensive portfolio of research collaboration with India’s universities. The five-year agreements focus on progressing research in biofuels and bio-products, gas transport and conversion, climate and environment, and low-emissions technologies for the power and industrial sectors.

A consortium of JGC Corporation, Fluor and TechnipFMC has won an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Rovuma LNG project, offshore Mozambique. MRV, a joint-venture composed of Eni, ExxonMobil and CNPC, holds a 70% interest in the exploration and production concession of Area 4, with Galp, Kogas and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) each holding a 10% interest. The Rovuma LNG Project will produce, liquefy and market natural gas from three reservoirs of the Mamba complex located in the Area 4 block in the Offshore Rovuma Basin.

A joint initiative between Japan and Scotland, formed two years ago, will see almost £21million invested into underwater technology projects to promote economic growth opportunities in the Blue Economy. Industry body Subsea UK and its technology arm, NSRI, has today (9th October 2019) announced that, through a close working relationship between Scottish Enterprise and the Nippon Foundation, £20.9million will be invested into six R&D projects being developed by 20 companies from Scotland and Japan. Scottish Enterprise is supporting with £6.2 million in R&D funding to 12 Scottish companies, while Japan will contribute £4.1 million to the joint projects.

The Swagelining team installed the LinerBridge® polymer lining connectors within Pipeline Bundles for one of Equinor’s developments in the Norwegian North Sea; followed by a second project for reeled tie-ins for Wintershall Dea’s Nova water injection pipeline in the Norwegian North Sea; and thirdly Ithaca Energy’s Cook Field in the North Sea. Maersk Supply Service, the Copenhagen based shipping company, has announced that it has implemented the ship management system Cloud Fleet Manager from German software provider Hanseaticsoft. Maersk Supply Service will be using the Cloud Crewing module of the web-based system for vessels and shore-bases to manage their crews and handle all crew-related tasks. One highlight is the variety of interfaces (APIs) that can be used to import and export data from and to Cloud Fleet Manager. High voltage engineering specialist, EDS HV Group (EDS), has completed testing, jointing and terminations for ELIA’s modular offshore grid (MOG), which is a first-of-its-kind offshore grid connection project in the Belgian waters of the North Sea. EDS completes testing, jointing and termination works for ELIA’s modular offshore grid (MOG), marking a hugely important step for the renewables industry in Belgium.The team worked to establish a connection between the MOG’s offshore submarine cables and the onshore cables at ELIA’s Stevin 380kV onshore substation in Zeebrugge. Peel Environmental – part of Peel L&P – working in partnership with Waste2Tricity has submitted plans for a waste plastic to hydrogen facility at its 54-hectare Protos site near Ellesmere Port which would help reduce fossil fuel consumption and create jobs. The £7m plant will use ‘UK first’ advanced thermal treatment technology developed by PowerHouse Energy Group (AIM:PHE) at Thornton Science Park, next door to Protos.
