New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind will address the joint sitting of both the houses of Parliament at the Central Hall on Thursday. New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday slammed the BJP over simultaneous polls, saying it was a "diversionary tactics" to divert people's attention from real issues and accused the ruling party of remaining inconsistent on the issue. New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a dinner for all the members of Parliament on Thursday. The dinner will take place at Ashoka Hotel in the national capital, sources said. Patna : The death toll due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district rose to 112 on Wednesday, officials said. As many as 93 children have died at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) while 19 others lost their lives at Kejriwal Hospital. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had on Tuesday visited Sri Krishna hospital to take stock of the encephalitis outbreak. Earlier, Kumar had announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the children who died due to AES. He had also given directions to the health department, district administration and doctors to take necessary measures to fight the outbreak. Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Tuesday said that Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy has become a joke by stating that Hyderabad is a "safe zone for terrorists". "People are laughing at him. He has become a joke," Rao said at a news conference on Tuesday night. Bengaluru: The Karnataka Congress suspended its senior legislator from Bengaluru R. Roshan Baig for anti-party activities, a party official said late Tuesday. "Baig has been suspended with immediate effect for his anti-party activities," said state Congress General Secretary V.Y. Ghorpade in a statement here. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has approved Baig's suspension on the recommendation of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to take action against him on the basis of an enquiry into his activities. New Delhi : In a bid to promote Sanskrit, the Uttar Pradesh government will now issue press releases in Sanskrit along with Hindi, English and Urdu, an official said on Tuesday. The first press note in Sanskrit was issued by the state government's Information Department on Monday. Senior officials of the Information Department said the important speeches of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and government information will be released also in Sanskrit, along with Hindi, English and Urdu. The department has decided to take help of Lucknow-based Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan for translating chief minister's speeches for public release. New Delhi : Within days of showing the door to a dozen senior Income Tax officials for alleged charges of misconduct, the axe has now fallen on 15 senior revenue officials dealing with indirect taxes on charges ranging from demanding bribe, criminal conspiracy to financial impropriety. Finance Ministry sources said that the axe fell on officials in the rank of Principal Commissioner and Commissioner, besides others of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) under Rule 56 (j) of central civil services (pension) rules. Mumbai : The police on Monday defused a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) found near a school in Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai. Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said, "The object resembling a bomb was spotted on a handcart. A bomb detection and disposal squad along with Navi Mumbai police reached the spot after receiving information and dismantled the device.". Further, he added that there was an alarm attached to the device which was set for 12 hours before it was defused. "We have received the CCTV footage and an investigation will be carried out on the basis of the evidence," the senior police official said. New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing on a plea seeking protection of doctors in government hospitals, saying since doctors have called off their strike in West Bengal and other states, there is no urgency to hear the matter.
