A machine learning technique developed by a European collaboration can protect dynamic wireless charging systems from cyber attack. Researchers in the UK have developed a technique to protect electric vehicles using dynamic wireless charging (DWC) from cyber attacks. Würth Elektronik has launched a magnetically shielded SMT-mountable storage choke with high inductance for DC-DC converters. THe WE-PD P performance choke is packaged in a 1260 footprint. With a MnZn core, the storage choke offers the highest ferrite-based saturation current currently available with a low RDC. THe WE-PD P is suitable for switching frequencies up to 5 MHz and is AEC-Q-200 qualified. The WE-PD-family storage chokes are aimed at integrated DC-DC converters and switching controllers with output power from 100mW to 300W. The inductors help to raise the efficiency of switching controllers to over 95 percent. Kemet, now a subsidiary of Yageo in Taiwan, has launched a 75V surface mount Tantalum Stack Polymer (TSP) capacitor series suitable for designs using gallium nitrdie (GaN) transistors. The second half of the year will see significant growth in power chargers, although the consumer appliance business will remain flat, says Balu Balakrishnan, CEO of Power Integrations. Power Integrations sees a recovery in the second half of the year folling the Covid-19 pandemic, supported by growth in a new generation of chargers based on gallium nitride (GaN) and USB Power Delivery (PD). “Second quarter revenues were $106.8 million in line with our guidance and up 4% year-over-year in spite of a challenging environment,” said Balu Balakrishnan, CEO of Power Integrations. The purchase of the Freiburg site of Solarworld Industries in Saxony for €12m includes buildings with a total area of 33,000 square meters, patents and trademark rights.
