We are in the midst of a significant transformation regarding the way we produce products and deliver services thanks to the digitisation of manufacturing and new connected supply-chains and co-creation systems. This article elaborates digital twins approach to the current challenges of knowledge management when Industry 4.0 is emerging in industries and manufacturing. There are not very many studies, which have elaborated on this important question from a knowledge management perspective. This article summarised this ongoing discussion. We observe three major shifts ongoing with digital twins: first, there is a drive towards the added complexity of the environments modelled by digital twins. Secondly, the paradigm offers a general shift fr.

In this paper, an EPQ model for delayed deteriorating items is developed where the demand before deterioration sets in is assumed to be different from that after deterioration sets in. There are three stages for the inventory system as follows: 1) the production build-up stage (0 ≤ t ≤ L1); 2) stage before deterioration sets in (L1 ≤ t ≤ L2); 3) stage after deterioration sets in (L3 ≤ t ≤ L). It is also assumed that the unit cost of production is directly proportional to the process reliability and inversely proportional to the rate of demand and shortages are not allowed. A numerical example is given to illustrate the developed model and sensitivity analysis carried out on the example to see the effect of parameter changes.

Replacement of exhausted batteries in wireless sensor networks might lead to temporal disruption of network operations. Wireless rechargeable sensor networks (WRSNs) can mitigate this problem by recharging nodes before they run out of batteries. However, because WSRN nodes cannot perform recharging and task monitoring simultaneously, it is challenging to ensure continuous network operations while maintaining low-cost and low processing-power requirements of nodes. It is necessary to design an effective and energy-efficient node scheduling scheme to schedule nodes to either monitoring or recharging state without adversely reducing the network lifetime and throughput. In this paper, we propose a distributed clustering and operational state sc.

In the last decade internet of things (IoT) technology becomes useful in almost every application fields. IoT-cloud-based architecture is insufficient to handle the requirement of IoT like latency, bandwidth, and volume of data. Fog computing can address those problems by providing processing and services to end-users at the edge network. In centralised system computation and processing was done in a centralised way. Some of the issues in that centralised system are malicious behaviour, node capture, and failure. The solution for this would be if multiple parties do the computation then the decision can be reliable, trustworthy. In this paper, authors first used IoT-fog-cloud architecture to explain the need to multi-party computation in Io.

This paper focuses on the circular economy approach which is based on the principle of recycle of resources. It is an alternative to the existing linear economy that is based on the principle of 'take-make-dispose', which is unsustainable for economic growth due to limitation of resources in the world. This study especially set up a circular economy model for sustainable development in the frame work of endogenous economic growth incorporating waste as valuable stock for further production. The paper highlights (a) stock of waste accumulation, (b) dynamics of waste in closed-loop system and © economic growth path. Recycling economic activities contributes in the economic development with reuse of resources without degrading environment. Thi.

Complex system governance (CSG) is an emerging field, representing an approach to improve system performance through purposeful design, execution, and evolution of essential metasystem functions. The aim of this study was twofold: i) to understand how modelling and simulation (M&S) can be used to enhance the emerging field of CSG; ii) to evaluate different MS&S paradigms for their compatibility with CSG. An extensive review of literature is used to define current trends in M&S. Results indicate the existence of a variety of models, methods, tools (including software) and techniques for modelling and simulating different aspects of phenomena mainly driven by tool capability and goals of the system in question. We propose a need for the devel.

Boost regulators working in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) are very popular in switch-mode power conversion. This configuration is widely adapted for power factor correction (PFC) in switch mode AC to DC converters. For lower power levels of up to 200 watts, boundary conduction mode (BCM) PFC is adapted, and for power requirements beyond about 200 W, CCM boost with average current control scheme is favoured. A novel technique is proposed in this paper to achieve complete soft-switching viz. Zero voltage switching and zero current switching for the main boost switch in CCM mode. The uniqueness of the scheme lies in not adding any auxiliary MOSFET switch and/or control algorithm. All the switching elements exhibit soft-switching, thus i.

In parallel with the continuous growth of international trade, the size of containerships has grown rapidly over the last several decades. The rationale being that the larger the capacity of a containership, the lower the shipping cost per TEU and the greater the shipping volume it can handle. The increased use of larger containerships, however, causes serious concerns for many ports around the world, since the existing port infrastructure and shipping network configurations are not designed to handle mega-containerships such as post-Panamax containerships. One of those concerns includes the vicious circle of never-ending port capacity expansion following the vessel size arms race. To ease such concern, the port authority should develop wis.

The cloud logging service is a core component for the operation and management of the production system. The service is usually a central server deployment whereby the dedicated central servers accept all log messages from leaf computing nodes. As the number of applications and solutions on the cloud changes dynamically, the amount of log messages that are forwarded to the logging service is also changed. The paper proposes a distributed logging service (DLS) that distributes log messages to multiple leaf computing nodes. No central server is required to manage the logging service. DLS also provides alert notifications, authentication, lifetime management and resilience, which are required for the production system. Results of an evaluation.

Laser scanning is a 21st century mapping technique that is used to generate high density point cloud data in three dimensions (3D). The 3D scans can be used for surveying, mapping and monitoring of rock mass movement in mining. For high precision and reliable work, the instrument must be used correctly, regularly calibrated and checked to ensure that it constantly performs according to manufacturer's specifications. In this study, a Leica Total Station TCR 1201+ and a Trimble S6 Total Station were used to establish accurate coordinates for a control beacon and scanning targets. Thereafter, the scanning of the targets was carried out using a FARO Focus XD 130 terrestrial laser scanner. A comparison was conducted using the coordinates from th.

The aim of this research is to highlight the relationship between tertiary education, nutritional standards and agricultural production. The authors performed the comparative theoretical analysis. The evidence shows that rural areas are lacking in role models and motivation, coupled with poor dietary standards and poorly educated elder generations. Two main issues arise from this: a society with a lack of social mobility due to poor educational standards, poor social health involving cases of childhood obesity, malnourishment and underachievement. Our solution would address the issues by putting in place a comprehensive plan of action, catering to the needs of both the educational and agricultural systems in marginalised, rural areas. The p.

Data warehouses are dedicated to analysis and decision-making applications. They are often schematised as star relational models or variants for on-line analysis. Typically, the analysis process is conducted via online analytical processing (OLAP) type queries. These queries are usually complex, characterised by multiple selections operations, joins, grouping and aggregations on large tables. Which require a lot of calculation time and thus a very high response time. The performance of these queries depends directly on the use of the secondary memory. Indeed, each input-output on disk requiring up to ten milliseconds. In order to reduce and minimise the cost of executing these queries, the data warehouse administrator must make a good physi.

In this paper, a cross-layer-based efficient bandwidth reservation mechanism (CLBRM) is proposed for next generation wireless networks. Application layer and network layer are involved in the design of the cross-layer architecture. Cross-layer architecture is used to reduce the delay. Shared database is used to implement the cross-layer architecture which allows to share the information among the application layer and the network layer. Bandwidth is reserved based on the type of requests and past history of the users. Four types of requests are used in this paper and priority is assigned among these requests. Two queues are maintained for last two priority requests and pre-emption of these requests is incorporated in order to serve the high.

The processing parameters of special-shaped granite processing by robots are still determined artificially and the machining efficiency and quality are limited. To address this challenge, in this paper, the grinding process was divided into rough machining and finish machining with different diamond tools and parameters. The relationships among processing parameters, forces and errors of the cutting depth in rough machining and the relationships among processing parameters, contour errors and surface roughness in finish machining were investigated. Based on the experiments, the artificial neural networks of the two processes were conducted separately, having high precision with errors less than 9% and 6%, which can be used to direct the sel.
