02 Apr 2020 --- Since the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Trademark was launched in 2011, it has grown exponentially from 12 countries to 60 countries, and now appears on more than 400 consumer products. The trademark is now more sought after by the Supply Chain Associates and Ordinary Consumer Goods Manufacturers and has seen rapid growth in the last six months, with almost 140 new trademark applications received from RSPO members. Notably, in Europe and the US, mainstream consumers are starting to take note of where their ingredients are sourced and their potential impact on the environment.

01 Apr 2020 --- German start-up Savanna Ingredients’ low-caloric sugar, Allulose, has obtained a self-affirmed Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status in the US following a comprehensive evaluation by a panel of independent experts. The defined end-uses include applications in beverages, bakery products, confectionery, dressings and sauces, dairy products, jams and preserves, processed meat and syrups at levels ranging from one to 55 percent.

01 Apr 2020 --- UK-based supplier of herbs, spices and dried goods, EHL Ingredients has noted a shift in demand for its products, which it supplies under its Lähde brand, during the coronavirus pandemic. According to Managing Director, Tasneem Alonzo, in the past week, there has been a sharp rise in kitchen cupboard staple products such as rice, flours, lentils, grains and bakery ingredients which have been shipped out to retailers and manufacturers across the country. EHL is also anticipating a shortage of products from China including garlic, ginger and sunflower seeds, but the company is “working hard to fulfil orders with our customers and to keep prices stable,” Alonzo tells FoodIngredientsFirst .

01 Apr 2020 --- Nestlé is accelerating the health and nutrition of its products this year, part of several goals in line with all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. In its just-released 2019 Creating Shared Value Progress Report 2019, the Swiss food giant has named 36 societal and environmental commitments to be achieved by the end of 2020. As a result, retailers Tesco, Aldi and Co-op are recruiting temporary colleagues to help feed British families. It joins a growing list of trade show disruptions caused by the coronavirus crisis. Restrictions and recommendations on mass gatherings continue to build in cities and states across the US. In light of the situation, guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Confectioners Association says canceling the show “was the only path forward to protect the well-being of our community.”
