What is a Dashboard?

This interface provides access to content via browsable menus to expert searches rather than writing queries in a search interface. For non-power users this can be simpler, faster, and more intuitive. Typically, a Dashboard page will consist of widgets (objects on the page in which text, links, images, flash objects, etc. can be displayed), headline feeds, and nested menus which bring the user to search results without requiring writing and tuning of queries. You can create as many dashboards as you wish on the SinglePoint portal. All components of the dashboard can be edited/configured in the Admin UI.

Creating a Dashboard

To create a Dashboard, go to the Admin UI >> more >> Dashboards and click on the New Dashboard button at the top of the Dashboards page.

This will open the Dashboard Details page.

The Name* field is for specifying dashboard name, and it is a required field.


On the Dashboard page, begin setting up your dashboard by selecting the Widgets link for that dashboard.

This will open the Widgets page, where you can select widgets for each of the three columns on the dashboard.


Managing Text Widget Boxes

One dashboard can have unlimited text widgets. You can edit them by clicking the Change link or delete them by clicking the X link.

Managing Headlines

One dashboard can have unlimited headline feeds. Click on the Change link to select an Expert Search which will be displayed as headline results on the Dashboard. Note that you can also change floating tips which will be displayed for the headline; use the Reset link to empty headline box. 

Managing Hints

The Hints box on the Dashboard Settings page can contain text, images, links and other objects which will be used to help the user with navigation on this dashboard page. Click on the Change link to edit the Hints text, or delete it by clicking the X link.

 

Setting up and Managing Dashboard Accordion

An accordion widget can contain multiple main topics, and multiple Expert Searches that address those main topics.

1. Go to Admin UI >>more >>Dashboards

2. Identify the dashboard you wish to add the accordion to, and click its Widgets link.

3. On the Widgets page of the selected Dashboard, click the Add Widget button to add an Accordion Menu box to the dashboard.


4. This will open a box where you choose to create a new widget, or reuse an existing one. Then choose the type of widget you wish to add - in this case, Accordion Menu.

5. This will add the Accordion box to the dashboard’s widget page. Now click its Change link, to add content to the accordion.



6. Click on the Add Custom Folder button to create a custom folder that contains specific links to content. Click the Add Expert Search Folder to add existing Expert Searches to accordion. See below for further details on adding these folders.

 

Creating Custom Folders and Links

To add a custom folder to your dashboard accordion, click on the Create Custom Folder button. This will open the Attach Custom Folder window.


  • Folder Name* Fill in this field to name your custom folder
  • Note: field is used to specify text which will be displayed as floating tip when pointing mouse to this custom folder.
  • Link field is optional and used to specify URL which will be opened when clicking on this custom folder.
  • Color field is used to select color of custom folder.
  • Is open by default check box is used to display custom folders opened by default.

Click on the Save button to create a custom folder. The created custom folder will appear on the Dashboard Settings page. Then click on the Save Menu button to confirm your changes.

To create link(s) under your custom folder, click on your folder to open it and you will see the <Create New Link> menu item. Clicking on it will open the Create custom link window. Fill in the Link text* and Link* fields and click Save. Then click Save Menu to confirm your changes.

 

Adding Expert Searches

To add an Expert Search folder, click on the Add Expert Search Folder button. This will open the Attach Expert Search Folder box.

  • Select desired value from the Expert Search Folder* drop-down. Take care not to select an empty expert search folder.
  • Color radio buttons are used to select the color of custom folders.
  • Is open by default check box is used to display custom folders opened by default.

Click on the Save button to create an Expert Search folder. The created expert search folder will appear on the Dashboard Settings page. Clicking on it will show all expert searches available in this folder. Click on the Save Menu button to confirm your changes. Note: if you do not click on the Save Menu button after changing the accordion menu, all changed data will be lost.

 

Dashboard Directories

The Dashboard Directory is a graphic index of the various dashboards set up on SinglePoint.


To manage the directory, go to Admin UI >> more >> Dashboard Directory


You can view existing dashboards and the directories into which they are organized, as well as create new dashboards and directories.

 


To create a new dashboard:

  • Give it a name
  • Activate it by checking the Is Active box
  • Add an image or icon from your hard drive in the Picture field, to represent the dashboard's topic
  • Grant Access to all users, or designate a specific domain, from the drop-down menu
  • File the dashboard in one of the Directories listed in the drop-down menu
  • Click Save and Edit Widgets, to select and edit widgets for this dashboard


To create a new directory:

  • Give it a name
  • Add Notes to describe what type of dashboards will be filed here, or any other pertinent info
  • To keep this directory out of user's view, check the Make This Directory Hidden box
  • Click Save

 Linking Dashboard to Multiple Directories

Any Dashboard in SinglePoint can be linked to multiple Directories. Go to Admin UI >> more >> Dashboard Directory and locate the Dashboard you wish to link to a Directory. Click the Settings link.


This will open the Dashboard Details for that particular dashboard.


On this page, you will see a Directories field, which lists any directories where the dashboard is already linked. You can link this dashboard to additional directories by clicking the Dashboard Directory drop-down menu, clicking on the desired directory, then clicking the Link button.

You will now see the new directory added to the dashboard’s list, and when you go to the directory in question, the newly-added dashboard will be listed there.

Deleting Dashboard from Directories

Open the Dashboard Details page for the dashboard you wish to remove from a directory. Go to the Directories field, and see the list of directories that house the dashboard. Find the directory you wish to delete, and click on the X next to it. You will then be asked to confirm the deletion.
