Channels

This feature allows us to understand which portal features people use the most to conduct searches or view documents.

 

Searches by Channel

Advanced Search: used when a search is made via a main collection search form.

Search Results: used when a search is made via the search results page by:

  • Using new or existing criteria in the Search for field on the page
  • Paginating to a new results page
  • Toggling clustering
  • Changing sort
  • Changing results tab

Headlines Widget: used when a search is made via the Headline widget “more headlines” link 

Saved Search: used when a search is made by clicking the “View” link for a saved search or when the Preview button is used for a saved search which is newly being created or one being edited

RSS Saved Search: used when a search is made by clicking the RSS feed button for a saved search.

Expert Search: used when is search is made by clicking the “View” link of an expert search. Note: Expert search interaction via admin UI are NOT tracked in this report as such action are not user related.

RSS Expert Search: used when a search is made by clicking the RSS feed icon for an expert search.


Quick Search Widget: used when a search is made via a Quick search widget.


Facet Search via Widget: used when a search is made by clicking an entity in the “Analyze Your Search” widget on result pages. Also, this channel is used when users click entities in the MI Analyst chart or Custom Chart Generator


Unknown Referrer/Direct Link: used when user makes a search using a link they have manually generated or where the URL is missing the action, it is logged as unknown.


Analyze: used when a search is made by clicking on entities listed on the MI Analyst results page for a particular facet or by clicking node on the Trends chart on this page


Accordion Widget: used when user makes a search by clicking on an accordion menu item which is created by way of an expert search.


RSS Widget: used when a search is made by clicking “more” link in a RSS widget. Note: This is only tracked for local RSS feeds such as those from Saved Searches or Expert Search. External RSS feeds are not tracked.


Bookmark Tag Search Widget: used when a search is made using the “Search by Bookmark Tag” widget on the My Bookmarks page


Search by Vendor: used when a user makes a search by clicking the “View all documents” link on a source’s Source Info page


API: used when a search is made using API 


Most Popular Search Terms Widget: used when a search is made by clicking on a term in the Most Popular Search Terms widget on the My SinglePoint page


Most Popular Bookmark Tags Widget: used when a search is made by clicking a term in the Most Popular Bookmark Tags widget on the My SinglePoint page


Newsletters Widget: used when a search is made by clicking the “more newsletter” link in the My Newsletter widget on the My SinglePoint page


Search Alert Emails: used when is search is made via the following links in search alert emails:

  • View results since last emailed alert
  • View results since last viewed alert

 

Document Views by Channel

Search Results: used when a document is accessed from the search results page.


Unknown Referrer/Direct Link: used when user accesses a document which has been linked in manually; for example, a text/hint widget. Information on action origin is in the URL. If the URL doesn’t contain the action, such actions are logged as unknown.


Headlines Widget: used to track documents accessed from headline widgets.


Search Alert Emails: used to track documents accessed from users' 4 hour, daily, weekly, and monthly search alerts.


Multiselect Export to HTML: used to track documents accessed via the multi-select action tool “Export to HTML” overlay.


Document Details: used to track documents access via the Document details page when accessed via the search results page, “More Info” action link.


Most Popular Widget: used to track documents accessed via the “Most Popular” widget.


Most Popular Page: used when a document is accessed via the “Last month’s most viewed documents” page, accessed by clicking the “more” link in the Most Popular widget.


Newsletters Widget: used to track documents which have been accessed via the My Newsletters widget.


Group Bookmarks: used to track documents which have been accessed via the group bookmark section on a group's home page, or via the group’s bookmark page. Note: bookmarked documents that redirect users to its document details page will be tracked as being accessed from the Group Bookmarks page, as that was the point of initial access.


Newsletter Issue: This channel is used in two instances:

  • When a user accesses a document via the WebView (also known as the preview) of a newsletter issue
  • When a user accesses a document via a newsletter publication email
  • Note: For the correct tracking to occur, the user must have entered the document link using the “Insert Headline” feature of the newsletter tool.


RSS Feed: used when a document is accessed by way of the RSS widget.


Mobile App: used to track documents which have been accessed via the client's Mobile app.


API: used to documents which have been accessed via the portal's API.


My Bookmarks Page: used when a document is accessed via the user's My Bookmarks page. Note: bookmarked documents that redirect users to its document details page will be tracked as being accessed from the My Bookmarks page, as that was the point of initial access.


My Bookmarks RSS: used when documents are accessed via the RSS view of the My Bookmarks page.


Bookmarked For Me Page: used when a document is accessed via the Bookmarked for Me page. Note: bookmarked documents that redirect users to its document details page will be tracked as being accessed from the Bookmarked for Me page, as that was the point of initial access.


Bookmarked For Me RSS: used when a document is accessed via the RSS view of the Bookmarked for Me page.


User\'s Bookmarks Page: used when a document is accessed from some other user on the portal bookmark page, when viewing their public profile.


User\'s RSS: used when a document is accessed via the RSS output of a user’s public bookmarks.


My Colleagues Activity Widget: used when a document is accessed from the My Colleague widget on My SinglePoint page.


My Colleague Bookmark Email: used when a document is accessed via email that is sent when a user bookmarks a document for a colleague.


Bookmarked For Me Widget: used when documents are accessed via the Bookmarked for Me widget on the My SinglePoint page.


ASAP: used when a document is downloaded directly from ASAP, using the Document link on the submission form.


Email Document to User: used when a document is accessed via the email users receive when a document or documents has been emailed to them via the Email action option on the results page.
